The 2022 Bushranger Cup Results

The 19th Bushranger Cup returned to the Mornington Peninsula and was played on three great courses on the weekend of March 25 - 27. This year we had nine teams of ferocious and semi-articulate highwaymen line up to contest the greatest prize in Australian golf. As is the tradition, the reigning champs are considered the most recent and infamous bushrangers, and so had the honour of competing as The Kelly Gang.

The event details were:

When: Friday, Saturday & Sunday March 25, 26 & 27 2022
Where: The Cups, The Dunes Golf Links and Moonah Open

What: 45 holes of mayhem over three days
How: Staying in Deluxe Villas at the Moonah Links Golf Academy.
Who: Mates playing & laughing in teams of four
Why: For loads of fun, trophies & prizes

This year we had another two Bushranger Cup Champions join the 10-Cups Club as the Geesh-bagger & Tommy T saddled up for the 10th time. This means we now have 17 exclusive Bushrangers who have played 10 Cups or more. They are:

Arbeige, Bastros, Boo, Crocko, Dee, Diesal, Dubs, Geesh, Hatman, Hendo,
Da King, Luggo, Quigley, Simmo, The Hominator, Tommy & The Rose.

The 2022 Cup started on The Cups Course at the Dunes with a superb sunny day with a very light breeze. Our Bushrangers posted some great scores and got the Cup away to a flying start with lots of fun and drama. Things were tight early with just nine shots between the top 8 teams and one straggler three shots further back. The Canvas Town Mob bolted clear with a brilliant start for the second year running off the back of Steery's crazy record-breaking 9-under for nine holes.

Saturday at The Dunes Golf Links was an intriguing day of golf with just one great round of 9-ounder 63, two pairs trailing with a 5-over 77 and all the rest of the field was packed tight with just 7 shots separating the middle 15 pairs – all of them shooting between 67 and 74 on the par 72 layout. As it happened, The Captain Melvilles had two pairs that each scored well, and they opened up a gap on the field after 54 holes with a six-shot lead over two teams in second place and two more mobs three more shots back in equal fourth. Da King & Dr F-Tard lead all comers with birdies on the last three holes to storm home with an amazing nett 63. The biggest lead ever chased down in the final round was nine shots nine-shots, so there were still five teams in contention going into the final day and the tournament was set up for a thrilling and dramatic finish.

On Sunday the sun was shining, and the wind had died to a mere zephyr and all hell broke loose on The Open Course at Moonah Links. Every team made birdies and scored under par. The range of scores were as close as we have ever had with just six shots between the nine teams as they all scored between nett 62 & 68 on the very challenging Par 72 layout. When the dust had settled, the Melvilles had held off the challenges with a brilliant nine-under 63 to win by five.

Thanks to all the teams who played, congrats to the teams who played well and enjoyed the spoils, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.

Above we see the new Kelly Gang (Mick Van Raay, Ian CrottyFraser GoughSebastian Shand) levitating
in the after-glow of their mighty victory after receiving the greatest prize in Australian golf - The Bushranger Cup.
