The 2021 Bushranger Cup Results
The 2021 Cup started in classic fashion at The Cups Course at The Dunes Golf Links with a superb sunny afternoon and the golf course in great condition with fast greens. Things were (sort of) tight early with just five shots between second and seventh place, but we did have one bolter with a clutch of great scores to take a solid lead and another mob drop anchor to be well off the pace. The Canvas Town Mob held a six shot lead over The Ben Hall Gang with nearly everyone else close, except The Kelly Gang who blew up and were 16 shots behind the leaders. Saturday at Cape Schanck was an intriguing day with superb conditions again and all hell broke loose on the scoreboard. Three teams had a great score (60, 62 & 63) that vaulted them into contention and there were four higher scores (70, 70, 70 & 73) that brought the leaders back to the field and removed two more teams from contention. When the dust had settled, there was traditional BR Saturday night leader-board mayhem with just two shots separating the top four teams and another team four back. This set up for yet another crazy last day ever at the BR Cup with these five teams all very much in contention going into the final day and the tournament. On Sunday we had another perfect day for golf on the Legends Course at Moonah Links. To the uninitiated, everything looked normal, but as it was the Bushranger Cup all hell broke loose once again in the final round. Every team made a few birdies and every team had their chances but no one took control and we were heading for another blanket finish, until the Freaks approached the green of the par five 6th hole. Near the green in tow and trying for an up and down for birdie, the freaks holed out for eagle and that sparked a run where they went 6 under par through six holes in the middle of their round to blow things wide open and march off with the Cup with a brilliant final round. In classic Bushranger Cup style, the Freaks knew Foxy could not stay for presentation, so they snuck off with the Cup on Saturday night and took a premature victory photo of the team celebrating their win (see below). Every team always predicts they are going to win, but this is taking that to another level. Thanks to all the teams who played, congrats to the teams who played well and enjoyed the spoils and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.
