The 2015 Bushranger Cup Results
Starting out at The Rosebud Country Club, the scores were very even on day one except for one straggler – The Kelly Gang that tore the 2014 Cup apart did the exact opposite and set another record with the worst ever first-round score at the Bushranger Cup. After launching their 2014 campaign with a lazy 9-under par in the first round, they commenced their defence with the equally remarkable 14-over in the first round – a difference of 23 shots. As it happaned they finished 19 shots behind the eventual winners so a few of those 23 could have come in handy. Other than than the defending champs, there was just 10 shots between 1st and 7th place with The Ben Hall Gang shooting the best first round score to hold a 3-shot lead. Saturday at Cape Schanck was an intriguing day of golf with just one bad round of 5-over 75 (from the leaders) and the rest of the field was packed tight with just 7 shots searating the other 15 pairs – all of them shooting between 64 and 71 on the par 70 layout. As it happened The Captain Melvilles had two pairs that each scored well and they opened up a big gap on the field after 54 holes. Behind them there was a logjam with the next six teams separated by just three shots. Despite the big lead, with six teams chasing them the swoopers certain to make a move. A seven-shot lead had been overtaken before by the legendary Stringybark Creek Freaks at the famous 2009 Cup so the mob knew the leaders could be caught. History shows the Saturday night leader has a habit of being reeled in so with seven teams in contention for the 2015 Bushranger Cup, the tournament was set up for a thrilling and dramatic finish. In the end, the tournament was one of the closest blanket finishes we have ever had with just eight shots between the top seven teams at the finish on Sunday. As predicted, the swoopers came and then one of them went crazy with The Harry power Gang getting on a roll and shooting the greatest final round of golf in Bushranger Cup history to come from sixth place (a massive 9 shots back) to claim the Cup in brilliant and dramatic fashion.
