The 2020 Bushranger Cup Results
The 2020 Cup started in classic fashion at The Cups Course at The Dunes Golf Links with a superb sunny afternoon and the golf course in great condition with fast greens. Things were tight early with just ten shots between first and 7th place and The Aaron Sherritt Gang holding a one shot lead over The Kelly Gang & The Canvas Town Mob and nearly everyone else close, except The Captain Melvilles who blew up and were 13 shots behind the leaders. Saturday on the Legends Course at Moonah Links was an intriguing day with blustery conditions and all hell broke loose on the scoreboard. Nearly every team had a good and bad score, except The Aaron Sherritt Gang (1st) & The Canvas Town Mob (+2nd) who had two shabby rounds and The Captain Melvilles (last place) who had the two best rounds of the day to vault into equal first place after 54 holes! When the dust had settled, there was more mayhem with just three shots separating the top four teams and just nine shots between first and last! This set up for yet another crazy last day ever at the BR Cup with these six teams all very much in contention going into the final day and the tournament. On Sunday the wind got up a bit, the skies were overcast and threatening,.and then all hell broke loose at Moonah Links. Every team made some birdies (but not many!) and every team had their chances but no one took control and we were heading for another blanket finish, until Arbeige stepped onto the tee of the challenging uphill par four 12th hole. The Kelly Gang had been very wobbly with 10 straight up and downs to save par and the wheels were looking like coming off the bandwagon any second, when Beige smashed one down 12 and then holed out for eagle with his short-iron second shot. Then Ho went coast-to-coast birdie on the Par three 13th, a boring par on 14, another eagle on the par five 15th and birdie on the long par four 16th and the Kelly Gang racked up 6 under par in 5 holes to blow things wide open and march off with the Cup. There was some history made with this being the first time a team with the same four Bushrangers have won the Cup back-to-back. But for Mikey Dee, it was back-to-back-to-back having won in 2018 with The Stringybark Creek Freaks. 2021 will be interesting with the first ever attempt at a three-peat and Dee going for a personal fourth in a row! Thanks to all the teams who played, congrats to the teams who played well and enjoyed the spoils and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.
