The 2019 Bushranger Cup Results
|
The 16th Bushranger Cup returned to the Mornington Peninsula and was played on three great golf courses on the weekend of March 29 - 31. This year we had seven teams of rabid and ferocious highwaymen line up to contest the greatest prize in Australian social golf. As is the tradition, the reigning champs are considered the most recent and infamous bushrangers, and so had the honour of competing as The Kelly Gang. The event details were:
When: Friday, Saturday & Sunday March 29, 30 & 31 2019
Where: The Cups, Rosebud CC and Moonah Open
What: 45 holes of mayhem over three days
How: Staying in Deluxe Villas at the Moonah Links Golf Academy.
Who: Mates playing & laughing in teams of four
Why: For loads of fun, trophies & prizes

Quigley, Saddam, The Hominator & The Rose.

The 2019 Cup started in classic fashion at The Cups Course at The Dunes Golf Links with a superb sunny afternoon and the golf course in great condition with fast greens. Things were tight early with just eleven shots between first and last place and two teams tied in the lead. The Kelly Gang, The Stringybark Creek Freaks and The Captain Melvilles held he top three spots with 64, 64 & 71 respectively.
Saturday at Rosebud Country Club was an intriguing day of golf with stormy conditions with showers throughout the morning and into the arvo. It was a crazy day with the tough conditions playing havoc and not a single team scoring less than nett 70. When the dust had settled, there was more mayhem with just three shots separating the top six teams! This set up for the craziest last day ever with these six teams all very much in contention going into the final day and the tournament.
On Sunday the wind got up a bit, the skies were overcast and threatening.and then all hell broke loose at Moonah Links. Every team made some birdies (but not many!) and every team scored between 66 and 69!?! Not one team posted a very low number and we were left with the amazing result of just three shots separating the top six teams (as it had been after 54 holes).
The big move came over the closing holes when The Stringybark Creek Freaks, exploded with 3 birdies on the closing four holes to vauly from fifth to first place as they played holes 69 to 72. A brilliant closing birdie on the 18th proved to be the difference and when the scorer had set down his abacus they were one shot clear of The Captain Melvilles. Thanks to all the teams who played, congrats to the teams who played well and enjoyed the spoils and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.
