The 2009 William Buckley Classic Results
The fourth William Buckley Classic was held over the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of October 2009. The venue was the Beach Course and the Creek Course at 13th Beach Golf Links in Barwon Heads, just a spear chuck away from one of Buckley's regular homes on the banks of Bream Creek.
The accommodation was on-course at the luxurious Hawthorn Suites Apartments and the format was 2-ball ambrose stableford over 36 challenging holes.
When: Saturday & Sunday October 24 & 25
Where we stay: On course at The Hawthorn Suites
Where we play: The Beach & Creek Courses at 13th Beach Golf Links
Who: You and your mates playing in two-ball ambrose teams
Entry coin: $335 for members ($350 non-members)
The tournament was contested in good spirit and the competition was tight all the way with the title decided by a single shot (for the third year running) and only eight shots separating the top eight teams and 16 shots between first and last place.
After 36 holes of 2-ball ambrose stableford golf, it all came down to the last hole in a thrilling finish on Sunday.

With 9 teams in striking distance after day one, by the losing holes on Sunday, the battle had come down to two teams - 2006 winners Seve & Kingo and 2007 Runners-Up Funky and Macca. When the dust had settled and the scorer had set down his abacus, it was Seve & King by a single shot in what was another great tournament. The final placings were:

Above we see the 2009 William Buckley Classic champions, Mick Van Raay (Kingo) & Michael Mileo (Seve), posing down with The Murrangurk Perpetual Trophy at the presentation ceremony. They were still recovering from the rapture of being the first ever Bushrangers to reclaim the WBC after winning the inaugural event in 2006.
