The eleventh Bushranger Golf Handicap Day for 2008 was held at Yarra Bend Public Golf Course in some of the worst conditions of the year - which is saying something, as BRG seemed to be somewhat of a drought-breaker for golf courses this year, attracting more than out fair share of wet weather. As the final Handicap Day for 2008, this event would determine the winner of the inaugural BRG Player of the Year title and so a robust field of 18 scoundrels signed up to take on The Bend. It turned out to be a tough day for all with the rain soaking everyone - below we see the Champion of Everything, Arbeige, considering his approach shot to the beautiful par four 16th hole.
After just four holes, some of the more timid competitors chose to abandon The Bend for a warmer situation, leaving the remainder of the courageous field to have all the fun. All the major action was taking place at the rear of the field where the four members still in contention for the POY title were battling it out in a head-to-head shootout. In the end, the race came down to the very last hole of the year. To find out what happened, see the Victorian BRG POY page. Once the final group had washed in, the field repaired to the nearby Grandview Hotel to tally the results. Out in front was Wade Jones, taking out his third win in five Handicap Day starts this year with a very solid nett-two-under-par 68. In second place we had three players tied requiring countbacks to divide the prize pool. In the end it was new member John Hearne with a superior back nine who took out second place, and tied in third were the two leaders in the POY title, David Regenspurger and Matthew Thomas.

The next BRG event will be the first Handicap Day for 2009 at Eynesbury Golf Course on Saturday January 31 from 9am.
