BRG Handicap Day - September 21 2008 - Gallery & Results

The eighth Bushranger Golf Handicap Day for 2008 was held at Sandringham Golf Links in sunny but breezy conditions on the course famous for having a few former holes from Royal Melbourne on the back nine. A field of 26 set out and most were belted around with only two sturdy Bushrangers able to tame the Sandy monster and shoot rounds under par. In the end a count-back was needed to separate the great Hominator, Nick Honey, and BRG newcomer Louise Tornerhielm who were locked together with sparkling rounds of nett 4-under 66. The wily Hominator took the bikkies on count-back with the stronger back nine of the pair.

The rest of the field were much more tightly bunched with 9 shots separating the next 12 placegetters. Ian Crotty took out third place just ahead of international golfing phenom Dominic Wall, and BRG Player of the Year contender Big Mick Van Raay. Mick also took out the longest drive and BRG stalwart Warwick 'Boo' Stonehouse showed his touch off the blue tees to take out the Nearest the Pin on number 10. The final results are below and the standings for the BRG POY have been updated.

The next BRG event will be the 9th Handicap Day for the year at The Dunes on Friday October 24 from midday. For more info, watch out for news items and keep an eye on the Event Schedule and the Handicap Day  page. Below is a small gallery of images with some of the special highlights of the day at Sandringham.

 Group_1.JPG

In the lead-out group were the white glove brigade: Da King, Seve, Q & 007 (because he is in cahoots with Q)

  Group_2.JPG

We had a group of Bushranger debutantes: Trevor Moses, Paul Miles, John Miles & Clyde Paul.

Group_3.JPG

The very stylish-looking quartet of Dominic Wall, David Regenspurger, Ian Crotty & Sebastian Shand.

Group_6.JPG

Nick Honey, Roger Brown, Paul Bryce & Matthew Pitt have their drivers well organised although the pose of Arbeige is interesting - his hand poition suggests he might be feeling a little more than his usual levels of first tee arousal.

 Group_4.JPG

Louise Tornerhielm, Matthew Thomas, Rob Lugton & Geoff Harrison prepare for take-off.

Group_5.JPG

Steve Noa, Paul Toll, Warwick Stonehouse & David McAdam looking ready to get up to more mischief.

Rob Lugton looks on as Matt Thomas plays his approach to the tricky green of the short par-four 8th hole.

Ho___RB_on_9.JPG

The Hominator and Arbeige share some quality time on the tee of the Long Drive hole - the par five 9th.

Tree_shot_on_9.JPG

The Big Fella shows off a fine set of hind-quarters as he plays a wonderful recovery shot on the ninth after his ball wedged in front of a root at the base of a tree and was virtually unplayable. Here he plays a left-handed shot chopping down with the back of a long-iron to squirt his ball back into play - the ball is in flight, just inside his right shin.

Dave, taking a nice lie down, Bastros, Crocko and Dom on the very tricky green of the par four 11th hole.

Paul Bryce loading up on the tee of the long par three 13th hole.

RB_shadow_on_13.JPG

Arbeige and his shadow load up on the tee of the very long par-three 13th hole.

Ho___BF_on_14.JPG

The Big Fella looks on as The Hominator plays his 2nd shot on the par-five 14th hole. Ho birdied this hole as he ploughed through the first six holes on the back nine in one over par off the stick to set up his win.

Hat_dance_on_15.JPG

Brycie does a Sandringham Hat Dance in celebration after burying a very tricky putt for a marvellous sand-save par on the 15th hole. The Hominator is amused.

Putting_on_16.JPG

Three Bushrangers in the sunshine on the long par four 16th hole. The Big Fella putts from the back fringe as Arbeige and Ho (in the distance) look on.

Scorer_s_hut.JPG

The scorer's hut - always a place of high drama after the round. Except for Zark (red hat submitting his card), the inquisitive quartet hovering here (Harro, Q, 007 & Crock) all finished in the top 10.

Crock_3rd.JPG

Ian Crocko-Diddio Crotty shows once again that he sure knows how to strike a pose on the golf course as he displays another bottle he has won, this time for saluting as the best of the rest and pinching third place.

Louise_2nd.JPG

Louise, tied at nett 4-under and taking 2nd place on countback, enjoys the raucous applause of some of the 24 fellas she defeated on the day.

Ho_1st.JPG

The winner, Nick Honey (aka The Hominator), celebrates his win by rejoicing in being the first ever winner of the newly released 2006 Bushranger Viognier Chardonnay, available thanks to our friends at Heathcote Winery.
